Alfred Phua menggelarkan dirinya sebagai \u201cpetani secara tidak sengaja\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Seorang pekerja sosial selama 35 tahun, lebih mesra dipanggil sebagai Uncle Alfred, mula terlibat dalam bidang pertanian ketika bekerja dengan beberapa NGO. Bermula dengan pertanian semula jadi, kemudian penanaman cendawan dan penghasilan baja kompos menggunakan cacing (vermicompost), beliau akhirnya menemui vanila dan menubuhkan Vanilla Impact Story (VIS) di Sibu.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sebagai rempah kedua termahal di dunia selepas saffron, vanila mempunyai nilai pasaran yang tinggi dan berpotensi menjadi sumber pendapatan lumayan. Pada tahun 2019, harga pasaran global vanila mencecah lebih USD600 sekilogram.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Pada tahun 2023, perdagangan global bagi vanila mencecah USD610 juta, dengan eksport Malaysia berjumlah USD22,600, menjadikan Malaysia pengeskport ke-69 daripada 122 negara di dunia.<\/p>

Namun, tanaman ini terkenal sukar dijaga dan menuntut kesabaran serta minat yang tinggi. Ia mengambil masa bertahun-tahun untuk mengeluarkan bunga, dan apabila berbunga, hanya ada tempoh 4 jam untuk melakukan pendebungaan tangan secara teliti.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cKami bukan sahaja sanggup menunggu pokok berbunga, tetapi juga orang yang sesuai untuk bersama kami,\u201d kata Uncle Alfred merujuk kepada model pengambilan pekerja yang unik di ladangnya.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Melalui kerjasama dengan ladang rakan niaga HIC Agro PLT, pekerja VIS terdiri daripada penduduk setempat dan bekas banduan, dengan matlamat menyediakan peluang pekerjaan, mobiliti sosial dan pemulihan bermakna melalui sektor pertanian.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Faktor Insani<\/h4>

Kadar residivisme<\/em> (pengulangan jenayah) bekas banduan dilaporkan menurun sebanyak satu peratus kepada 17.06 peratus pada tahun 2023. Faktor seperti peluang pekerjaan, tempat tinggal stabil dan sokongan sosial menyumbang kepada penurunan ini.<\/p>

Sejak sebelum menubuhkan perusahaan sosial ini, Uncle Alfred sudah percaya bahawa perubahan sebenar bermula dengan manusia sendiri, dan sering kali melalui tindakan kecil dengan menghormati maruah seseorang. \u201cSaya percaya kelestarian sebenar bukan sekadar menyediakan tempat tinggal dan makanan. Mereka perlu menjana pendapatan yang diperoleh melalui keupayaan untuk berdikari dengan bermaruah.\u201d<\/p>

Kini, VIS menggaji lima pekerja tetap dengan gaji asas RM1,700 serta manfaat tempat tinggal dan janji agihan keuntungan selepas tuaian berjaya.<\/p>

Selain skalabiliti, inovasi dan hasil yang terbukti merupakan syarat kelayakan untuk menerima dana daripada Hasanah Social Enterprise Fund (HSEF), sebuah inisiatif Hasanah dengan sokongan Kementerian Kewangan untuk menyokong perniagaan berasaskan misi yang menghasilkan impak sosial atau alam sekitar yang boleh diukur.<\/p>

Sokongan HSEF membolehkan VIS membina dua rumah hijau dan membeli 1,500 keratan pokok vanila daripada spesies Planifolia<\/em> dan Tahitensis<\/em>.<\/p>

Mengulas rasional sokongan kepada perusahaan sosial, Stanley berkata, \u201cDengan menggunakan model komersial, mereka dapat menyampaikan impak sosial dan alam sekitar secara lebih lestari. Dari Ladang ke Pasaran<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cDalam agroperniagaan, terutamanya tanaman komoditi seperti vanila, kesabaran amat diperlukan. Saya tidak mahu mempercepatkan proses kerana saya mahu melakukannya secara semula jadi dan mesra alam,\u201d kata Uncle Alfred.<\/p>

\u201cPercubaan pertama dia gagal!\u201d kata Uncle Alfred sambil ketawa. \u201cPercubaan kedua berjaya 30% dan ketiga 70%, bagus!\u201d<\/p>

\u201cTak ramai anak muda mahu bekerja di ladang, mungkin sebab cuaca panas. Sayasendiri pun rasa susah pada mulanya, tapi saya terus cuba dan kini sudah terbiasa.Saya rasa semua bergantung kepada minat. Kalau kita nak cuba, kita kena berani,\u201dkata Henry yang kini memulakan hidup baru di VIS.<\/p>

Satu lagi komponen projek ini ialah latihan untuk 14 petani kontrak di Sirian, Bau,Kuching dan Puncak Borneo. Setakat ini, VIS telah menjual keratan bernilaiRM10,000, dan turut mempunyai perjanjian jaminan belian semula dengansebahagian petani berdasarkan harga pasaran semasa.<\/p>

Uncle Alfred berkongsi bahawa vanila sebagai rempah mempunyai jangka hayatyang panjang, tetapi untuk memanjangkan lagi penggunaannya, VIS turutbekerjasama dengan petani lain dari Sabah dan Johor dengan membeli biji vanilamereka untuk diproses menjadi produk seperti pelembap dan kopi.<\/p>

Ekosistem yang semakin berkembang ini mencerminkan perubahan arus perdanadalam keutamaan negara, di mana perusahaan, impak dan kelestarian semakinbergerak seiring.<\/p>

\u201cSejak 2022, Kementerian Kewangan telah menyalurkan dana yang signifikanmelalui Hasanah. Kami melihat ini sebagai isyarat besar bahawa kerajaanmengiktiraf sektor impak sosial sebagai penyumbang utama dalam membantuMalaysia mendaki rantaian nilai sosioekonomi dan mencapai matlamat sifar bersih,\u201dkata Stanley<\/p>
