Environment

Nature is far more than a backdrop to our lives; it is a living inheritance. Yet, as forests thin and rivers strain, the urgency to protect what remains becomes impossible to ignore.

Our efforts are rooted in the belief that the environment and human wellbeing are inseparable. This includes projects that diverted over 27 tons of plastic waste from landfills in schools and communities, restoring 41 hectares of forest with native mangroves and trees and amplifying Malaysia’s sustainable development efforts on global platforms like the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP29.

This is how we balance progress with preservation — ensuring that as Malaysia moves forward, we continue protecting our natural treasures every step of the way.

The Mission to Save our Bornean Sun Bear

Once a victim of poaching, Itam the Bornean Sun Bear has a second chance at life at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, living life as one of over 40 rescued sun bears at the centre.

Her journey from traumatic human encounters, being rescued, and now released into the wild, mirrors the broader fight to save the world’s smallest bear species from extinction. With sun bears set to become the official mascot of Visit Malaysia 2026, this story highlights how conservation efforts can thrive when the public embraces wildlife protection as part of national pride.

Net Positive: Fishers Protecting Marine Mammals

Fishers are often blamed for harming marine ecosystems, but in Perak, they are the heroes of conservation.

Through MareCet’s initiative, these fishers use innovative “pingers” to prevent marine mammals from getting caught in fishing nets—protecting both wildlife and their livelihoods. This inspiring partnership showcases how traditional communities and conservationists can work together to create a healthier ocean, proving that sustainable fishing is possible when solutions come from within.
