Humanitarian Disaster Relief During the 2024 Floods

In 2024, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, through its foundation Yayasan Hasanah (“Hasanah”), played a pivotal role in responding to one of Malaysia’s most challenging monsoon flood seasons in recent years. As floodwaters rose across Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang, Hasanah swiftly mobilised over RM822,000 in humanitarian aid to support communities in crisis.

Working closely with national agencies such as NADMA, METMalaysia, and the MATCH Foundation, Hasanah’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness proved critical. As part of the member of the GLC & GLIC Demi Rakyat & Negara (GDRN) coalition, Hasanah contributed to the national Anticipatory Action Plan, focusing on early warning systems, risk analysis, and the pre-positioning of relief supplies. These measures strengthened local response capacity and helped mitigate the impact of the floods.

Hasanah collaborated with seven humanitarian partners on the ground—delivering life-sustaining aid to over 12,860 individuals and 1,010 families. Relief efforts included the distribution of ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meals, clean drinking water, hygiene kits, medical assistance, and support for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and the sick. In areas where electricity was lost, generators were deployed to restore power.

The foundation’s emphasis on solidarity and collective action extended beyond Malaysia’s borders. International support, such as Temasek Foundation’s SGD50,000 contribution, expanded Hasanah’s reach to even more flood-affected communities.
